Columbus Crew SC travels to the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland, this weekend to face D.C. United in their second head-to-head meeting of the 2018 regular season. The match is set to kick off on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET.
In their 2018 Week 3 matchup, Crew SC dominated United in a historic 3-1 victory. Midfielder Federico Higuain cemented his place in Major League Soccer’s 50-goals, 50-assists Club on a corner kick to Ricardo Clark. Clark headed in the delivery to secure his debut Crew SC goal. Milton Valenzuela and Pedro Santos also scored their first career goals for the Black & Gold.
With two weeks between the meetings, both sides will enter in search of a rebound. Crew SC comes into Saturday's away match — its second road affair in a row — with its sights set on stabilizing after back-to-back defeats against Vancouver Whitecaps FC and the Chicago Fire. United will appear even more weary for a win, riding a nine-game winless skid, dating back to last September.
Most recently, D.C. is coming off of a 1-0 loss against Sporting Kansas SC last week. Mid-match tweaks saw United try to spark their offense via substitutes in the final minutes, but the move still did not pan out.
In March's first meeting, both sides were missing a few key pieces due to international call-ups — a new wrinkle this Saturday's match will add. Both Zack Steffen and Wil Trappwere both with the U.S. Men's National Team and absent from the first meeting. United were without Zoltán Stieber (Hungary), Ulises Segura (Costa Rica), Oniel Fisher and Dane Kelly (Jamaica), and Bruno Miranda (Bolivia).
The Black & Gold will return to MAPFRE Stadium on Saturday, April 21 to host New England Revolution in a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff.
