2019 (Columbus): Wil Trapp has 28 regular-season appearances (26 starts as a central midfielder) in 2019 while providing four assists. He made his 2019 regular-season debut in a home match against the New York Red Bulls (March 2). Trapp earned a call-up to the U.S. Men’s National Team and did not make an appearance in Crew SC’s match against the Philadelphia Union (March 23). He returned to the pitch and captained Crew SC in a home match against Atlanta United (March 30). Since returning for the Black & Gold, the Captain has started and played every minute, of every match since March 30. Trapp registered his first assist of the 2019 regular-season during a road contest against the Colorado Rapids. He returned to the starting lineup during a road contest against Orlando City SC (July 13). Trapp recorded his second assist of the 2019 regular-season during a home contest against the Montreal Impact (July 20). During two consecutive home contests, Trapp recorded an assist in each the first coming against FC Cincinnati (August 10) and the second against Toronto FC (August 17) bringing his 2019 regular-season total to four assists. He made a substitute appearance during a road contest against Atlanta United (September 14), coming into the match for Pedro Santos. Trapp came in as a substitute in a road contest against Vancouver Whitecaps FC (September 21), before starting in Crew SC's final regular-season matches against the Philadelphia Union (September 29) and Toronto FC (October 6). 2018 (Columbus): Wil Trapp made 30 regular-season appearances (29 starts as a central midfielder), scoring one goal and providing one assist. He played all 90 minutes in the first match of the regular season on the road against Toronto FC (March 3), making his 125th start in the process, and he played all 90 minutes in the second and third matches of the regular season against the Montreal Impact (March 10) and the Philadelphia Union (March 17). Trapp earned a call-up to the U.S. Men’s National Team, captaining the team in a friendly against Paraguay (March 27), and therefore did not make an appearance in Crew SC’s match against D.C. United (March 24). He returned to the pitch and captained Crew SC in a home match against Vancouver Whitecaps FC (March 31). He played all 90 minutes in every match from a road match against the Chicago Fire (April 7) to a home match against the Philadelphia Union (May 9). He returned to the starting lineup for road matches against the New England Revolution (May 19) and Sporting Kansas City (May 27). Trapp did not make an appearance in the home matches against Toronto FC (June 2) and the New York Red Bulls (June 9) because he was captaining the U.S. Men’s National Team in friendlies against Ireland (June 2) and France (June 9). 2017 (Columbus): Trapp made 34 regular-season appearances (all starts), all as a center midfielder, and recorded five assists. He made his season debut as a starter in the Opening Match against the Chicago Fire (March 4), wearing the armband for the first time since being officially named captain of the team. Following his appearance against the Portland Timbers (March 25) he was named to MLSSoccer.com’s Team of the Week. He made his 100th regular-season appearance for Crew SC against Toronto FC (April 15) and made his 100th regular-season start for Crew SC against the New England Revolution (May 6). Trapp recorded his first assist of the season in a road match against the New England Revolution (May 21), setting up Ola Kamara’s goal which was nominated for MLSSoccer.com’s Goal of the Week. Trapp started in an international friendly at home against Eintracht Frankfurt (July 14). He started in a road match against Vancouver Whitecaps FC (September 16) and recorded his fifth assist of the 2017 MLS regular season, setting a new career-high for number of assists in single regular season en route to earning MLSSoccer.com’s Team of the Week honors. Trapp started in a road match against Orlando City SC (October 15), earning a spot on MLSSoccer.com’s Team of the Week for his performance. Trapp made five appearances (all starts) at center midfield in the Audi 2017 MLS Cup Playoffs.
2016 (Columbus): Trapp made 30 appearances (29 starts) for Crew SC at central midfield. He received a call-up from the United States National Under-23 team and captained the side for two starts against Colombia in an Olympic qualification playoff (March 25, March 29). Upon return from international duty, he started again at FC Dallas (April 2) and has continued in the starting lineup for every match through the contest vs. San Jose (August 27). Trapp was named to the 2016 AT&T MLS All-Star Gameday Roster, becoming the first Homegrown Player in Crew SC history to receive that honor. He played 45 minutes against Arsenal FC in the game (July 28) as a halftime substitute. He registered his first assist of the season in the match vs. New York City (August 13). He missed the matches at LA (September 3), vs. Vancouver (September 10), at Orlando (September 17) and vs. New England (September 25) after being listed as questionable. He returned to the starting lineup by playing 90 minutes at D.C. United (September 28). He made two appearances in the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup as he came on as a substitute against Tampa Bay (June 15) and at Chicago (June 28).
2015 (Columbus): Trapp made 19 appearances (17 starts) at central midfield, notching three assists. He made his season debut with a start at central midfield against Houston (March 7) and he notched his first assist of the season on Kei Kamara’s goal in the win over Toronto FC (March 14). He missed the match versus New York (March 28) after being listed as questionable, returned to the lineup with a start at Vancouver (April 8) and was again listed as questionable with concussion symptoms ahead of the club’s next 13 matches, and did not dress. He returned to League action with a substitute appearance vs. New York (July 4). Trapp made his first League start since April 8 with a start at Chicago (July 15), helping Crew SC keep a clean sheet in a 1-0 win. He earned a call-up by the United States Under-23 team ahead of a training camp in England, returning from the camp to start against FC Dallas (September 6). He earned another U-23 call-up ahead of the 2015 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Championship, where he captained the side to a Third Place finish and a nod to play Colombia in early 2016 in a playoff for a berth in the Olympics. Trapp helped the club keep its second consecutive clean sheet as well as notched his third assist of the season in a start against D.C. United on Decision Day (October 25). In the Audi 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs, he started all five matches for Columbus. In the 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, Trapp made his first on-field appearance at the time since April 8 at Vancouver with a substitute appearance in the Round of 16 at Orlando (June 30).
2014 (Columbus): Trapp made 28 starts at central midfield, where he recorded one goal and four assists. He started and was named Vice Captain for the Black & Gold in the team’s Season Opener against D.C. United (March 8) and has worn the captain’s armband twice: at Portland (May 17) and against Chicago (May 24). He recorded the game-winning assist in the club’s 2-1 home-opener victory against Philadelphia (March 22). He was called-in for the U.S. Under-21 camp (April 20-24) but was kept in Columbus as a precautionary measure following a slight groin tweak following the D.C. match (April 19). Trapp played in the next match against New York (April 26). He was issued a red card following a second caution in the 80th minute on the road against Sporting Kansas City (May 4) and missed Columbus’ midweek match at Houston (May 7). He did not travel and missed the match at Toronto FC (May 31) with a “slight knee knock” suffered ahead of the match. He returned to the starting lineup and played 68 minutes versus FC Dallas (June 29) as well as 90 minutes at Colorado (July 4) and at New York (July 12). He was named to and represented the Black & Gold at the inaugural Chipotle MLS Homegrown Game as part of the AT&T MLS All-Star Game festivities. Trapp scored his first career MLS goal at Houston (September 13). He made his postseason debut by starting at central midfield in the Black & Gold’s opener versus New England (November 1). He also started in the second leg at the Revolution (November 9). Trapp made one appearance -- a substitute appearance -- at midfield in the 2014 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tournament. He came on as a substitute in the Fifth Round match at Chicago (June 25) after recovering from a right knee sprain.
2013 (Columbus): The Homegrown Player made his professional debut, made 16 starts in the midfield and recorded one assist for the Black & Gold in his rookie season and earned the club’s Breakout Performance of the Year award. Trapp missed seven matches while on international duty with the U.S. Men’s Under-20 National Team for camp, the Toulon Tournament and the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup from Mau 26 through June 29. He made his MLS debut with a start in the central midfield against Portland (July 7) – becoming the fourth Columbus Homegrown Player in club history to start a match – and earned “Barbasol Man of the Match” honors as he led all players in passing percentage with an 86 percent completion rate. He also started in the international friendly against Wigan Athletic (July 13), made a fourth consecutive start in the match against New York (August 10) and recorded his first career assist on Federico Higuain’s “Goal of the Week” winner. Trapp started in each of Columbus’ final 16 League matches. He left the match against Houston (September 4) with a lower-body injury and was able to start in the next match at Sporting KC (September 7). In MLS Reserve League action, Trapp made four appearances, including two starts.
COLLEGE EXPERIENCE
The midfielder started 45 matches for the Zips in two seasons at Akron. He finished his college career with eight assists and one goal. Trapp was a two-time All-MAC First Team honoree in both seasons at Akron. As a freshman, Trapp was named MAC Newcomer of the Year and the top freshman in the nation by TopDrawerSoccer.com.

Trapp has earned 20 senior National team caps for the United States. On January 9, 2015, Trapp received his first-ever call-up to the United States Men's National Team's senior roster in order to participate in its January training camp. He earned his first cap for the Stars and Stripes on January 28, 2015 in a friendly at Chile, entering as a second-half substitute. On January 6, 2016, Trapp was called-up by head coach Jürgen Klinsmann to participate in U.S. Soccer's annual January camp for the second consecutive year. Held in Carson, California, the camp ran from January 11 - February 6. Trapp earned his second senior team cap for the U.S. with a second-half substitute appearance against Canada on February 6, helping the squad to a 1-0 victory. Trapp made his first start and captained the senior squad for the first time in a friendly match against Bosnia-Herzegovina on January 28, 2018. He started in a friendly against Paraguay on March 27, 2018, once again captaining the team. Trapp started and captained the U.S. in a friendly against Ireland on June, 2, 2018. Then, Trapp started in a friendly against France on June 9, 2018, captaining the U.S. to a 1-1 draw. Trapp captained the U.S. in friendlies against Brazil on September 7, 2018 and Mexico on September 11, 2018, and he returned to captain the U.S. Men's National Team for a friendly against Peru (October 16). He captained the Stars and Stripes in a friendly against England (November 15) before making a substitute appearance in a friendly against Italy (November 20). In 2019, Trapp made a substitute appearance in the second half of a friendly against Panama (February 27). He started in a friendly contest against Costa Rica (February 2). Trapp started in a friendly against Ecuador (March 21) before making a substitute appearance against Chile (March 26). Trapp made a substitute appearance in the opening match of the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup against Guyana (June 18), and receiving the captain’s armband from Michael Bradley upon entering the field. He started against Panama in the Group Stage of the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup (June 26). Most Recently, Trapp started in a friendly against Mexico (September 6).
Trapp is a former U.S. youth international On August 28, 2015, he earned a call-up by the U.S. Under-23 squad in their last training camp ahead of 2015 CONCACAF Olympic qualifying. He was then called-up again for the 2015 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Championship, where he captained the U-23s in a 3-1 Group Stage opening victory against Canada at Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kansas (October 1). He earned another starting nod in a 6-1 win against Cuba (October 3) and did not play in the Group Stage finale against Panama. Trapp again started in the Semifinal match against Honduras (October 10), a 2-0 loss for the United States. Trapp started the Third Place Game against Canada (October 13), a 2-0 win for the U.S. U-23s, giving the side an opportunity to play Colombia in a playoff for an Olympic berth in early 2016. In March 2016, Trapp was called-up again by the U-23s ahead of their home-and-home playoff against Colombia for a berth in the Summer Olympics. He started as the team's captain and played all 180 minutes over both contests, with the first coming at Colombia (March 25) and the second in Frisco, Texas (March 29). Prior to that, Trapp earned 15 caps as a member of the U.S. U-20 National Team, helping the team qualify for the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup where he earned three caps in group play. He was one of five finalists for U.S. Soccer’s 2013 Young Male Athlete of the Year award, an honor that he went on to win. He was called-in for U-20 duty at the Toulon Tournament, held from May 28 to June 8, 2013 and earned four caps. The midfielder earned a 2013 CONCACAF U-20 Championship Best XI selection, scoring one goal in the tournament. Trapp also competed with the U-14, U-15 and U-18 National Teams.
YOUTH EXPERIENCE
Trapp won 2010 NSCAA National High School Player of the Year. The midfielder was the fifth-ranked recruit in the country by both Top Drawer Soccer and College Soccer News and a Top Drawer Soccer five-star recruit. Trapp served as Crew Soccer Academy team captain for the U-16 and U-18 age groups and was two-time Columbus Crew Academy player of the year (2009, 2010). Trapp won the Ohio Gatorade Player of the Year (2009) and compiled a 41-1-2 record over a two-year high school career at Gahanna. He helped the Golden Lions' clinch their first state championship in 2009 with the game-winning penalty kick in the shootout. Trapp was a two-time high school All-American.

PERSONAL
Trapp is the son of John and Liz Trapp. He is married to his wife, Beth. His grandfather emigrated from Greece where he played semi-professional soccer. Outside of MLS, Trapp supports Dortmund as his favorite club and is a fan of the Cincinnati Bengals outside of soccer. In his spare time, Trapp likes playing euchre, reading fiction books and watching movies, specifically sci-fi and fantasy flicks. His favorite soccer memory is when he served as the captain of the U.S. Under-20 team in 2013. Trapp’s favorite vacation spot is Lake Charlevoix, Michigan and he’d love to travel to New Zealand someday. His role model is his father, John. Growing up, Trapp looked up to former Spanish international Xabi Alonso. He speaks English and some Spanish.
