In the Week 22 edition of MLSsoccer.com’s Top 10 Plays, three Columbus Crew SC players received recognition for their respective efforts during Columbus’ 3-2 road win against the New York Red Bulls on July 28.
At No. 8, defender Jonathan Mensah, who tallied his first goal of the season on Saturday against the Red Bulls, earned a shoutout on the defensive end with a full-stretch denial of an RBNY cross into the box.
Goalkeeper Zack Steffen, who made a leaping split-second save in front of goal to deny Aaron Long’s header, came in at No. 4.
Last but not least, defender Harrison Afful, who leads the league in chances created from open play among defenders, delivered a perfectly-weighted assist to Patrick Mullins as part of Columbus’ second goal of the game.
Up next for Crew SC, Steffen will compete at the MLS All-Star Game on Wednesday, Aug. 1 in Atlanta, Ga. before the Black & Gold return home to host the Houston Dynamo on Saturday, Aug. 11 as part of Columbus Zoo Night.
