ABOUT CF MONTERREY


CF Monterrey is a four-time Concacaf Champions League winner, having won the 2010-2011, 2011-2012, 2012-2013 and 2019 editions of the tournament. At the domestic level, Monterrey has won Liga MX on five occasions (México 1986, Clausura 2003, Apertura 2009, Apertura 2010, Apertura 2019) and Copa MX three times (1991–92, Apertura 2017, 2019–20). CF Monterrey reached the Quarterfinals of the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League by defeating Club Atletico Pantoja (Dominican Republic) 6-1 on aggregate scoring over two legs.


CREW SC CONTINUES UNDEFEATED RUN AT HOME


With a 0-0 draw against the Philadelphia Union on April 18, the Black & Gold extended their undefeated streak at Historic Crew Stadium to nine consecutive matches across all competitions dating back to a 3-1 win over New York City FC last year (October 18). Over that span, Crew SC has outscored its opponents 17-5 while posting a record of 8-0-1. Notably, the Crew has not allowed a goal in its last five matches at Historic Crew Stadium, having last conceded a goal on November 21 of last year.


MATAN MAKES CREW SC DEBUT


Midfielder Alexandru Matan made his Crew SC debut during the MLS regular-season home match against the Philadelphia Union (April 18). Matan came in as a substitute for midfielder Pedro Santos in the 88th minute of the match. The 21-year-old midfielder joined Crew SC from Romanian side Viitorul Constanta FC on March 8, 2021.


ROOM EXTENDS SHUTOUT STREAK AGAINST PHILADELPHIA UNION


With his shutout against the Philadelphia Union on April 18, goalkeeper Eloy Room extended his streak to four consecutive matches. Room had previously posted shutouts against Real Esteli in the Crew's 1-0 home win on April 15, a 4-0 road win the previous week (April 8), as well as in Crew SC's 3-0 MLS Cup win against Seattle Sounders FC (December 12). Last season, the goalkeeper posted seven shutouts in 17 regular-season appearances for the Black & Gold.


ZELARAYAN PROVIDES GAME-WINNING ASSIST


Lucas Zelarayan registered his second assist in as many Concacaf Champions League matches for Crew SC in the 1-0 Round of 16 Second Leg win over Real Esteli FC (April 15). The midfielder provided the game-winning assist, setting up Bradley Wright-Phillips goal. Notably, Zelarayan has provided three assists in his last three matches, as he provided an assist during MLS Cup 2020 (December 12) and in last week’s match against Real Esteli (April 8).


SANTOS BECOMES FIRST PORTUGUESE GOAL SCORER IN SCOTIABANK CONCACAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE HISTORY


With his 45th-minute penalty kick goal against Real Esteli FC on April 8, Pedro Santos became the first Portuguese player to score in Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League history. The midfielder had previously become the first Portuguese player to win MLS Cup on December 12 of last year, as he was a member of the Crew SC squad that won the trophy.


ZARDES RECORDS FIRST BRACE FOR CLUB IN CONCACAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ACTION SINCE 2010


With his two-goal performance against Real Esteli FC in Nicaragua (April 8), forward Gyasi Zardes became the first Crew SC player to register a brace in Concacaf Champions League action since 2010. Prior to that, the last player to achieve this feat was Emilio Renteria, who scored two goals during a road match against Joe Public of Trinidad and Tobago (October 21). Last season, Zardes led Crew SC in regular-season scoring with 12 goals in 21 appearances en route to claiming his third consecutive Crew SC Golden Boot award.
