Just 33 seconds into the match, 2020 acquisition Derrick Etienne Jr. calmly placed a back-cut cross from fellow newcomer Chris Cadden as the Crew drew the New York Red Bulls 1-1 in the second match of the 2020 Visit Tucson Sun Cup.
The build-up to the goal was perfection as nine different Crew players touched the ball before Etienne's shot. Meanwhile, not a single RBNY player touched the ball.
The sequence went as such: Fanendo Adi from the kickoff back to Darling Nagbe to Josh Williams to Aboubacar Keita, back to Nagbe to Williams and back to Nagbe, who then lofted it to the flank to leftback Hector Jimenez, to Sebastian Berhalter in the middle, who found a vertical seam to Pedro Santos, who pushed it with pace before dishing it forward to Etienne, who played a give-and-go with Cadden before passing it into the back of the net.
Recent acquisition Andrew Tarbell made his Crew debut, immediately making a double-save and helping retain the draw and the Crew's undefeated preseason record.
Next up, the Crew plays the Houston Dynamo on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. ET at the Kino Sports Complex.
