Q: You spent last season on loan with Crew SC. How rewarding is it to have that now turn into a permanent transfer?
CRISTIAN MARTINEZ: I’m very happy given the season I had last year. Now that I’m incorporating into the group, I hope to have another good season.
Q: How do you feel within Crew SC’s system? What is it you like about it most?
CM: I feel good because everyone understands me well and I feel at home. I like the way we play, how we train, the way we attack. I have learned a lot and I hope to learn a lot more.
Q: In 2016 you made your MLS debut as well as your debut with the Senior Panama National Team. How would you describe 2016?
CM: It was an unforgettable year for me because I had the chance to debut with the Senior [Panama] National Team as well as debut in MLS, scoring a goal in my debut. It was an unforgettable year.
Q: What goals have you set for yourself this upcoming season?
CM: I have a lot of goals ahead of me, but the first thing is to show up and do my best, that’s why I’m here.
Q: Crew SC has many young players on its roster. How does it feel to have teammates that are close to you in age?
CM: It’s a good feeling and at the same time it is also very competitive because you know that there are players that have the same age as you and have the same potential as you, so you just have to work hard.
Q: Gregg recently referred to you as being fearless. Where does that confidence in your play come from at such a young age?
CM: It’s my playing style. I always give it my all, I never assume that a ball is lost. That’s my type of soccer.
Q: Any messages for the fans back in Columbus?
CM: Keep supporting us. This season we’re going to do an excellent job, God willing, so come out to MAPFRE Stadium.
