Three Columbus Crew SC players currently on loan appeared in their respective Starting XI’s last week, highlighted by a full 90-minute performance from Homegrown Player Alex Crognale.
Crognale, who was loaned out on March 15, made his club debut at centerback in Indy Eleven’s 1-0 victory over Hartford Athletic on March 30 at Lucas Oil Stadium. The University of Maryland product, who has made 22 appearances and 12 starts in three seasons with Crew SC, won two out of two tackles attempted and helped the United Soccer League Championship side improve to 2-1-0 on the year.
Forward Eddie Opoku subbed on for Birmingham Legion FC in the 69th minute in their 3-2 victory over Louisville FC, helping the club garner its first three points in the USL Championship on Sunday, March 31 at Louisville Slugger Field. In his first match with Birmingham since being loaned out on March 22, Opoku won one duel and completed 100 percent of his passes.
Goalkeeper Ben Lundgaard, who made his professional debut with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on March 23, was in the 18-man roster in a 2-2 draw against Bethlehem Steel FC on March 30. In Lundgaard’s start on March 23, the Virginia Tech ‘keeper totaled three saves en route to a 2-2 draw.
Meanwhile, the Crew are back in action on Saturday, April 6 as the Black & Gold host the New England Revolution at 7:30 p.m. ET at MAPFRE Stadium.
