COLUMBUS – Columbus Crew 2 have signed midfielder Christopher Pearson for the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro season. The 21-year-old joins the Black & Gold after most recently competing with FC Tulsa in USL Championship and Huntsville City FC in MLS NEXT Pro.
"We are excited to be adding Christopher to our roster ahead of the season,” said Crew 2 General Manager, Corey Wray. “At a young age he is a player with a great amount of experience, both professionally and internationally, and also a player with a tremendous amount of potential. He has great ability on the ball, is versatile, and provides us with a true two-way option on the field. We are excited to have Christopher join Crew 2 to help him continue to develop within our Club.”
Pearson was signed by FC Tulsa on July 19, 2022, and made his USL Championship debut on Sept. 7, 2022, subbing on in the 76th minute against Louisville City. He accumulated 279 minutes in six appearances (four starts) over the course of the season.
In 2023, Pearson logged 16 appearances (four starts) and 445 minutes for Tulsa. On Aug. 16, 2023, Huntsville City FC announced the midfielder would be joining the MLS NEXT Pro side for the remainder of the 2023 season, on loan from FC Tulsa.
Pearson signed his first professional contract with Jamaican National Premier League club, Cavalier FC in March of 2022. He made his professional debut and scored his first professional goal on March 14, 2022 in a 2-0 win over Molynes United. He made eight appearances (seven starts), tallying one goal and two assists for Cavalier. Pearson added both assists contributed in a 2-0 win over Harbour View FC on May 3, 2022.
Pearson spent four seasons at Kingston College in Kingston, Jamaica. In his final season at Kingston College, Pearson was awarded Jamaican Schoolboy Football League MVP honors in 2022 after leading the league in goals scored with nine.
Internationally, the Montego Bay native has earned five caps with the Jamaica U-20 side, all during the Concacaf Under-20 Championships in June of 2022, where he captained the team twice. At the senior level, Pearson was on the Reggae Boyz roster three times, against El Salvador, Canada, and Honduras, during Jamaica’s final World Cup qualifying window in March of 2022.
Crew 2 begin the MLS NEXT Pro season at home against New York Red Bulls II at Lower.com Field on Sunday, March 17 at 3 p.m. ET. The full season schedule can be found here.
